Cloud Computing Courses in Nigeria: What Should You know?

If you’re searching for cloud computing courses in Nigeria, you’re looking in the right direction. Cloud skills are becoming increasingly relevant as businesses move applications, databases, storage and infrastructure to cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud.

But there’s one problem: there are so many cloud computing courses available that choosing the right one can be confusing.

Should you learn AWS? Azure? Cloud engineering? DevOps? Do you need programming experience? And how do you know whether a course is actually worth paying for?

What should you look for in a cloud computing course?

Before paying for any course, look beyond the certificate. A good beginner-friendly cloud computing course should ideally cover:

  • Cloud computing fundamentals
  • AWS, Azure or Google Cloud
  • Networking fundamentals
  • Storage and databases
  • Virtual machines and compute
  • Identity and access management
  • Cloud security
  • Deployment and monitoring
  • Hands-on practical projects
  • Certification preparation

Practical experience is particularly important. A certificate alone doesn’t automatically make someone a cloud engineer. You need to understand how cloud services work and be able to demonstrate what you’ve actually built.

AWS or Azure: Which should you learn?

There isn’t one answer for everyone.

AWS is a strong starting point if you want to pursue cloud engineering and work across startups, technology companies and international organisations.

Azure can be particularly relevant if you’re interested in enterprise environments that already rely heavily on Microsoft’s ecosystem.

You don’t necessarily need to learn all the major cloud platforms at once. Starting with one and building a strong foundation is usually a better approach.

How much does a cloud computing course cost in Nigeria?

The price varies considerably depending on the training provider, duration, delivery method and what is included.

For example, Nigerian training providers currently offer everything from introductory courses to multi-month programmes covering AWS, Azure, DevOps and practical projects. Some are online while others offer physical or hybrid training.

That’s why price shouldn’t be your only deciding factor.

A cheaper course isn’t necessarily better, and an expensive course isn’t automatically worth the money.

What about getting a job after the course?

This is another important consideration.

Cloud computing can lead to roles such as:

  • Cloud Support Associate
  • Cloud Engineer
  • Cloud Administrator
  • DevOps Engineer
  • Cloud Solutions Architect

However, don’t expect a course certificate alone to guarantee a job. You’ll still need practical skills, projects, a good CV and, depending on the role, relevant certifications.

A recent Nigerian cloud-career guide, for example, recommends building foundations in Linux and networking, choosing one major cloud platform, obtaining an appropriate certification and building real projects.

So which cloud computing course should you choose?

That depends on your current level and career goal.

If you’re completely new to technology, start with cloud fundamentals.

If you already have an IT or software background, you may be better suited to a more technical AWS, Azure, Cloud Engineering or DevOps programme.

And if you’re considering paying for a specific course, don’t rely only on the training provider’s sales page. Look at the curriculum, duration, practical work, certification preparation, support and overall value for money.
